The largest use of chromic acid is in preserving wood and metal plated ( plating ) . Other uses are in manufacturing catalysts and development of magnetic tape for recording. Chromic acid is used to produce a kind of free wood preservatives CCA salts . The CCA conservatives are combinations of chromium, copper and arsenic , and offer protection to prevent the wood is attacked by fungi, sea worms , termites and rot Ascomycetes . When treatment is according to the standards of the American Wood Preserves Association, it gives a clean appearance , odorless and nontoxic. Also it used in the anodized aluminum , which gives resistance to metal corrosion. Which is performed using chromic acid as an electrolyte solution . Another application using its power as an oxidizing agent is used in organic synthesis and in the bleaching of oils , fats and waxes.
